Deb and Bruce come from horse families, Deb growing up with a father who loved breeding and racing both trotters and gallopers. She rode competitively representing Canterbury in eventing.
Bruce and his father had a passion for amateur racing and competed in numerous gymkhanas around central Otago – Bruce being a 5x winner of the coveted Glenorchy galloping cup! They have a small band of thoroughbred broodmares to breed from and are actively involved in the NZ Thoroughbred Breeders’ committee. Bruce is about to embark on his training career having just secured his owner/trainer’s licence. They live on a 25 acre block in Hororata.
Importing horse covers started with an idea of how to make a more cost effective yet robust product for the four legged family in the paddocks. Many samples, alterations and tweaks later, they hit upon a good fitting cover made by a company that took pride in their workmanship. We decided we couldn't keep them all to ourselves and offered some up for sale to the rest of New Zealand! Since then other suppliers and different ranges of covers have been added and we have return consumers who love our rugs we keep needing to get more in!
Bruce can take the credit for the name – when asked for the logo – he looked at Deb and said, “well, you are The Cover Queen!”
